3D printers have started to make crucial goods in recent years. When we look at these products, we can predict how the future of this technology is. The latest news came in the form of "Airbus produced a motorcycle with a 3D printer".
Airbus is the world's largest airline company. In this Project, Airbus worked with ApWorks and it had been the first company in the world to produce 3D-printed motorcycle. The lightweight motorcycle is 35 kg in weight. It has an electric motor of 6 kW (8hp) and also has a very interesting external outer structure.
Officials explained that the engine could reach speeds of 80 Km / h. Furthermore it was a perfectly suitable for the highway. This product is more likely to be an option in urban transport.
This very interesting design was made by H. R. Geiger. With Airbus 3D printer, the Motorcycle has very durable features. This feature also depends on the Apworks patented alloy.
A second generation material, Scalmalloy®, thanks to its aluminum-silicium powder mixture, makes this powerful structure. The motor frame is made of aluminum, scandium and magnesium alloys. The engine written in the 3D printer is made up of a single solid frame thanks to Scalmalloy. Besides the hollow design, the inner parts become much more accessible in this way.
Bionic algorithms have been developed for the outer structure. Thanks to these algorithms, it has a 30% lighter feature than the current production. The first electric motor produced by TE Connectivity had a 750 watts weaker motor and was also 200 kg heavier.
Be light does not mean that is the cheap. 7,000 TL deposit is required for the first 50 units of these motorcycles. It will be necessary to pay 56,000 Dollars over this price to have a motor.
The fundamental purpose of APWorks will be go on serial production by examining different motorcycle models. For this motorcycle, you will need to consider a huge budget to have one of the limited number of productions.
